Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Cardinals Overcome Two-Goal Deficit to Tie Williams, 2-2

MIDDLETOWN, CT. - Through a second period that saw four goals scored, the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team overcame a 2-0 deficit to claw their way back to a 2-2 tie against Williams in a non-league game, snapping a five-game streak of losses. Wesleyan then went on to win the shootout 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference shootout as Sami Smith '27 delivered with 47 saves in goal.

Entering the second period with a scoreless game on the line, the Cardinals (0-5-1 overall) were surprisingly not the first to score. Despite Dylan Green's '26 efforts on offense with seven total shots, it was the Ephs (2-1-2 overall) that held the edge to the Cardinals and took two-goal lead at the half-way marker. Zoe Rosenberg and Keira Harder took control and gave the Ephs a cushioned lead, but it was short lived. The Cardinals cut the score with five minutes remaining and tied the match with three minutes to spare.

Taking the faceoff at center ice, Caroline Kee '26 wrangled her own faceoff win after it fell into the hands of the Ephs and charged down the far boards to snap the puck over the line from the right post, setting the game at 2-1. Two minutes later, Parker Caldara '29 tied the game with a power-play goal. Holding the man advantage as the Ephs were called for hooking, Caldara stuffed the puck behind Erin Pye with assisted from Green and Caroline Humber '29.

While Smith would face more than 20 shots in the third period, the junior goaltender held steady and kept the game tied up at two, forcing overtime. The Cardinals outshot the Ephs through five minutes of extra hockey before the matchup was sent to a shootout. Green and Sam Galanek '26 overpowered Pye with two successful shots, Smith making two saves on the Ephs.

Beats Tura '26 and Aimee Seppenwolde '26 highlighted the defense, Tura blocking five shots while shooting two of her own. Seppenwolde marked five shots and two blocks. From the circle, Lilly Place '29 won 11 draws.

Smith earns her first win of the season, making 47 saves, tying her career-high. Pye finished with 29 saves for the Ephs.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Dec. 5, when they travel to St. John Fisher for a 6 p.m. puck drop.
