Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Cardinals Defeated by Salve Regina 2-1 on the Road

NEWPORT, R.I. –  The Wesleyan men's ice hockey team fell in non-conference action on Tuesday night to Salve Regina University in a 2-1 loss that saw Danny Judge '26 score the game-tying goal in the third period following a scoreless opening period from Salve Regina's Howard Rink.

In another strong-handed effort by the freshmen class, the Cardinals (2-4-0 overall) were led by Dylan Margel '29 and Jack DesRuisseaux '29 in the opening minutes of the game despite being held without a goal by Selby Warren. Patrick McDevitt '28, for his efforts, was also holding the Seahawks (7-1-0 overall) from the board. Margel and DesRuisseaux each managed two shots on Warren but it was the Seahawks with the shot advantage.

The Seahawks caught a break late in the second period, gaining a power play on an interference minor called on the Cardinals. Matthew Brunton gave the Seahawks the one-goal lead and the lead held until the midway point of the third period. Judge tied the game with nine minutes remaining in regulation, Will Rassier '29 assisting on the tally. Three minutes later Cade DeStefani scored the game-winning goal for the Seahawks. The Cardinals ran the clock with an extra attacker, bombarding the Seahawks without McDevitt in goal.

McDevitt finished the evening with 38 saves for the Cardinals. Warren earned the win, stopping 20 shots.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 9, when they travel to Endicott for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
