Men’s Hockey Quelled by No. 11 Endicott in 5-2 Loss

BEVERLY, MA. - Led by Andrew Haxton's '28 two-point night, the Wesleyan men's hockey team suffered a 5-2 road loss to No. 11 Endicott College on Tuesday night from Raymond J. Bourque Arena, closing the 2025 portion of the season.

The Cardinals head into the winter break with a 2-5-0 overall record while running a 2-2 NESCAC record during the first four games of the season. Handling the first period with the Gulls (7-1-1 overall) with near even scoring chances, it was the Gulls that ultimately capitalized on those chances with two goals. Anthony Cafarelli and Taybor Aldrich were recognized with the tallies, sending the Cardinals into the second with at a 2-0 deficit.

Opening the second period with a third goal, Lou Kamienski extended the Gulls' lead to three goals. With seven minutes remaining, Haxton cut the score for the Cardinals, firing from outside the left post on a 3-on-1 breakaway attempt. Dylan Margel '29 and Ethan Davidson '26 were the set up as the Cardinals charged the zone. The Gulls would score one more from Aldrich before the start of the final 20 minutes.

The final goal for the Gulls would kickstart the third period, Sean Bradley scoring a short-handed goal after less than a minute of action from the faceoff. The Cardinals would catch a second break with under 10 minutes to go, earning the man advantage with the Gulls called for roughing. The power play goal was scored by Danny Markham '28, assisted by Haxton and Troy Maldonado '28.

With five shots on goal and nine faceoff wins, Hayden Hanes '26 was another drive to the Cardinals offensive opportunities. The Gulls held the smallest of shot margins, outshooting the Cardinals 38-34. Markham leads the Cardinals with two goals and two assists.

In goal, Patrick McDevitt '28 finished the evening with 33 saves. Peter Sterling earned the win with 32 saves.

The Cardinals return to action in 2026, opening the second stretch of the season on Friday, Jan. 2, in the Comfort Inn Complex Winter Classic at Plattsburgh State.
