Lilly Place Tallies Two as Cardinals Fall to No. 5 Nazareth, 6-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -  Scoring two of the four goals put away by the Wesleyan women's hockey team on Saturday afternoon, the most in a game this season, Lilly Place '29 led the way as Wesleyan fought back against No. 5 Nazareth University in a 6-4 loss at the Tim Horton's Iceplex.

Making quick work from the opening faceoff, the Golden Flyers (10-0-0 overall) took an early lead with less than two minutes of play under way. Amy Laskowsky was credited with the goal, but the lead would not hold into the second period. With two minutes remaining, Dylan Green '26 tied the game on a power play. Holding the man advantage on a boarding call, the Cardinals (0-7-1 overall) set up with Bree Anderson '29 at the point to direct play. Green settled a pass through the zone from Amelia Molin '27 and sent the puck over the blocker of Mia Gonsalves with a one timer. The Cardinals went shot for shot with the Flyers.

A short-handed goal by Meredith Boettcher gave the Flyers a second lead in the middle period, this time however the lead was cut by Places' two goals. Nearing the end of the clock, Caroline Humber '29 caught the puck in the neutral zone from the near boards and sent a soft pass towards Gonsalves for Place to tip in. With seconds on the clock, Place tipped in a second goal at the left post on the power play.

Entering the third, the Flyers scored three in a row before Molin could record the final Cardinals goal of the game. Allie Zack's goals sandwiched Brooke Judkiewicz scoring. Molin cut the scoring for the Cardinals, deflecting the puck under the crossbar at the right post from Humber out left. Laskowsky would have the final say with over a minute remaining.

Place also led from the faceoff circle, winning 10 draws for the Cardinals. Molin fired six shots on goal.

In goal for the Cardinals, Sami Smith '27 finished with 32 saves. Gonsalves earned the win with 24.

The Cardinals return to action in 2026 when they face Conn. College on the road on Saturday, Jan. 3.
