MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Wrestling for the second time in a week, Wesleyan once again defeated Springfield in a dual meet, landing a 27-18 win on Saturday afternoon inside Bacon Field House. The Cardinals improve to 7-1 on the year while the Pride fall to 11-5. Opening the match at 165, CJ Shea '25 exacted some revenge on Jake Deguire, who had just handed Shea his first defeat of the season on Sunday at the NEWA Dual Championships. Shea landed a takedown in the second period and held on for a 4-3 decision victory over Deguire.

Andrew Maiorini '25 and Nick Rogers played to a 1-1 stalemate through three periods and in the extra session, it was Maiorini who landed the match-winning takedown to get the Cardinal bench up off their feet to celebrate the win.

Springfield landed their first points of the afternoon on a pin at 184 before Aris Dashiell '25 responded with a convincing 11-3 win by major decision at 197 over Oliver Parker.

The Pride retook the lead on a pin at 285 before Chris Hong '27 defeated Jack Callahan in an entertaining, high energy match at 125. Callahan had beaten Hong 6-4 on Sunday but it was the Wesleyan sophomore who came out on top in the rematch in Middletown.

The lead changed hands for a third time following Springfield's third pin of the afternoon, giving the Pride an 18-13 advantage heading into the final three bouts.

Needing a win, Hayden Myers '27 delivered with a one-sided 11-3 major decision victory at 141, making it a one-point match heading into 149.

Despite dealing with multiple injuries, Ike Guttentag '26 stepped up and landed a crucial pin in 2:20, the first and only win by pinfall for the Cardinals in the match, as he made it 21-18 in favor of the Cardinals heading into the final varsity bout.

Shailen Savur '25 got the call for Wesleyan at 157 and he was primed for the moment, landing an early takedown on Kayo Torres to set the tone in a match that Savur dominated, to the tone of a 12-1 major decision win to clinch the dual win for the Cardinals.

Wesleyan continues the regular season next weekend with a trip to Williams for a quad against the Ephs, No. 19 Ithaca, and Oneonta on Saturday, February 8.
