WATERVILLE, ME. – After holding the game scoreless for over 60 minutes, the Wesleyan men's hockey team fell in extra minutes to Colby College, 1-0, for the second time this season in a NESCAC loss from Jack Kelley Rink.
As history chose to repeat itself, the first meeting between these NESCAC rivals in Middletown was a 2-2 tie that ended in a 3-2 shootout victory for the Mules. Headed by freshman goaltender
Patrick McDevitt '28, the Cardinals (5-13-13 overall, 4-10-1 NESCAC) dug their heels in and denied the Mules (12-5-4 overall, 7-5-3 NESCAC) a goal through three periods of regulation time. In the opposite zone, the Mules did the same but held just the softest edge on the Cardinals in on goal opportunities.
Up for the challenge as the Cardinals' leading goaltender this season, McDevitt faced 29 total shots on goal while stonewalling the Mules on 28 of those chances. Entering the overtime period with zeros on the board, the Mules struck with just over a minute of action underway as Tyler Crist was able to snap the puck over the line and behind McDevitt.
Hayden Hanes '27 and
Danny Judge '26 led the Cardinals on the offensive front with four shots Mules' goaltender Cooper Rautenstrauch. Rautenstrauch finished the evening with 25 saves in goal, earning the win.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15, when they head to Brunswick to face Bowdoin at 3 p.m.
