Cardinals Battle to 3-2 Victory over Williams

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – While seeing action from three separate goal scorers, the Wesleyan men's hockey team made a hard-fought showing on Friday night against NESCAC rival Williams College in a 3-2 victory from Wesleyan's Spurrier-Snyder Arena.

Now 1-1 against the Ephs (8-9-2 overall, 5-7-1 NESCAC) this season, the Cardinals (5-11-3 overall, 4-8-1 NESCAC) were caught out of the gate early in the first period by an Ephs goal scored from the blue line by Bobby Corkery. No matter, the Cardinals and Ephs went shot-for-shot through the first period while Ephs held their lead into the second period.

With just two minutes of action underway in the second, Jake Geraci '28, scoring his first-career goal, tied the game up at one to sink the Cardinals back into the game with much fanfare. Geraci's goal was celebrated with a flurry of stuffed animals pouring onto the ice from the stands as part of Wesleyan's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's 2025 Teddy Bear Toss. Winning a battle for the puck on the far boards inside the blue line, Ethan Davidson '26 bulldozed the puck down behind the net to set Geraci up directly in front of Cal Sandquist. Forward Trevor O'Brien gave the Ephs a one-goal lead eight minutes later to close out the scoring for the middle period.

Zach Stimeling '27, who led all Cardinals with four shots on goal, scored the second game-tying goal of the evening for the Cardinals as the clock ran towards the midway marker of the period. The Cardinals lost possession on a turnover that fell onto the stick of Nate Heithoff, but Heithoff's pass in front of Sandquist was picked off by Stimeling and lifted over Sandquist's glove.

Not looking to keep the tie game going for long, Danny Judge '26 put away the game-winning goal a minute after Stimeling's tally to close the scoring for the Cardinals. Burying the puck over Sandquist's left blocker, Judge's snap came on the heels of a turnover as the Ephs attempted a clear in front of their bench. Andrew Haxton '28 and Davidson teed the puck up on the return of possession.

Recording his 18th and 19th assist, Davidson, the Cardinals' points leader, now leads the NESCAC in total assists (19) and points (25).

Patrick McDevitt '28 made a solid rebound following the opening goal by the Ephs, making 21 saves in goal for the Cardinals to earn his fourth win of the season. Sandquist finished the night for the Ephs with 23 saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8, when they host Middlebury in NESCAC action beginning at 3 p.m.
