MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Earning the first All-Conference selection for the Wesleyan men's squash team in nearly six years, senior captain
Abhinav Gupta '25 was named to the All-NESCAC Second Team on Wednesday afternoon as announced by the conference office in Hadley, MA.
After serving up at 5-12 season at #1 for the Cardinals, Gupta became the first Cardinal to earn conference honors since the 2019-20 season. The last Cardinal to be named to an All-NESCAC team was Sean Choi '21.
Serving as the veteran leadership for the Cardinals, Gupta pulled out two match wins against ranked opponents No. 25 Haverford and No. 16 Amherst in a conference show down. Prior to the match with the Mammoths, Gupta was coming off a win against Hamilton the day before but Amherst proved a more looming threat. Facing Abhimanyu Gupta at #1, Gupta was forced to five games in the ultimate 3-2 victory for the Cardinals as the lone win. Gupta took an early lead in game one, winning games one, three, and five as Abhimanyu went toe-to-toe and won games two and four. Gupta finished off the match with 11-6, 10-12, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5 final scores.
Against Haverford, Gupta was the final match point of the morning for the Cardinals in the 5-4 win. Nailing a two-game comeback, Gupta rallied after his early match lead was halted by Noah Tunis with a win in games three and four. Gupta's win finished at 11-6, 11-6, 7-11, 5-11, 11-6.
The Cardinals finished the 2024-25 season with a 7-10 overall record.
