CANTON, N.Y. – The No. 8 ranked Wesleyan women's lacrosse team proved too much for St. Lawrence as the Cardinals traveled 350+ miles and defeated the Saints 16-2 on Wednesday afternoon. Wesleyan improves to 2-1 on the season while St. Lawrence drops to 1-2.
Alix Riley '25 opened the goal scoring 4:24 into play, kick starting a 4-0 scoring run in the first quarter to set the tone for the game. Wesleyan took advantage of St. Lawrence turnover and cashed in with goals from
Dylan Green '26, Riley, and
Mya Waryas '27. The Saints got on the board with 32 seconds left in the quarter but Wesleyan scored twice in the closing seconds, first from Waryas on a player-up with eight seconds left and then again with one second left,
Elle Priesing '26 found the back of the net to make it 6-1 Wesleyan.
Wesleyan pulled away for good in the second quarter, outshooting the Saints 9-1 and outscoring the opposition 5-0.
Lindsey Diomede '26 scored twice in the quarter while
Becca Dibble '26,
Sam DeLeo '25, and
Addie Cummings '26 each scored to put Wesleyan ahead 11-1 late in the period, initiating the running clock rule in the first half.
The Cardinals scored three more goals in the third quarter, extending their scoring run to 10 unanswered from late on in the first quarter. DeLeo and Cummings each scored their second of the game while Waryas completed her first career hat trick. The fourth quarter saw
Kate Tracy '27 and
Piper Dionne '28 both score their first career goals to account for the 16-2 final score.
Wesleyan outshot St. Lawrence 34-8 for the game and 29-4 in the first three quarters combined. The Cardinals also held a sizeable 14-6 advantage in draw controls.
Waryas scored three goals and added an assist, giving her a career-high four points to go along with her first career hat trick. DeLeo posted two goals and two assists for a four-point game while Priesing and Dibble each had one goal and two assists.
Madeline Johnson '28 put up a monster game defensively, recording five caused turnovers and four ground balls, leading the team in both categories.
Maeve Olson '25 had three caused turnovers while Green had two.
All three Wesleyan goalkeepers saw the field with
Izzy Weintraub '26 getting the win with two saves and one goal allowed in over 30 minutes.
April Rowe '27 made one save in 21+ minutes while
Maggie Keller '28 had one save in 8+ minutes.
Wesleyan is back on the road for a Friday night showdown at Williams which starts at 6:30 PM.
