Cardinals Down No. 25 MIT at Home, 4-3

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Closing out a four-game homestand with a 3-1 record, the Wesleyan men's tennis team will embark on the teams Spring Break trip to Viriginia after a 4-3 defeat of No. 25 MIT on Friday afternoon from Wesleyan's John Wood Memorial Courts.

The early spring weather pulled favor for the Cardinals in a sunny afternoon affair on Friday, giving way for an early lead with a doubles sweep but it was Brett Keeling that marked the first singles point of the match. Filling in at No. 5, Brett Keeling '27 won his second match in a row from the upper courts as he put away Joseph Li in a 6-4, 6-2 final.

Leading through the top of the lineup, Max Lustgarten 25 held the upper hand on Adam Sun at No. 2 in a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Sun took early advances on Lustgarten in each set but Lustgarten would put up six in a row without much answer from Sun.

The final point of the match went to Max Litton '26 at No. 3, facing Shrish Choudhary in a three-set finish. Litton claimed set one, tying the set at two before posting four unanswered points but Choudhary forced a third set with a second set win. Just as it played out in set one, Choudhary's early lead would be short lived with Litton running six in a row to take the match 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

The Cardinals swept doubles play for the second match in a row, Lustgarten and Jex Frankel '27 earning a 6-3 finish over Ryan Xiao and Choudhary at No. 3. At No. 2, Keeling was joined by Chase Kasday '26 as the pairing put away Li and Sun, 6-3. The top match pairing of the afternoon was Harry Collomb '26 and Litton, facing Grant Gallagher and SangHyuk Im. Collomb and Litton's comeback began after the Engineers already had a 4-0 lead, posting three in a row to gain leverage before the back and forth tied the match at six. The duo won the tiebreak and finished the match with a 7-6 (7-3) final.

The Cardinals return to action on Thursday, March 20, when they faceoff with Christopher Newport at 3 p.m.
