TUCSON, AZ. – It was another late-night loss for the Wesleyan baseball team as they fell in a non-conference matchup with Northern State University on Friday night in a 11-8 toss as the team was led by
Connor Sullivan '26 from the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson.
Facing loaded bases at the bottom of the second inning, the Cardinals managed to cut Northern's 4-0 lead in half as Sullivan got his first look of the game. Sullivan doubled on a fly to right field, scoring as
Luke LaSaracina '25 doubled next in the lineup to center field. LaSaracina reached third on a ground out by
Sam Hensinger '26 but it was
Jake Acker '27 doubling on a fly that gave him the go ahead for home.
The Wolves posted three more runs in the fifth inning, bringing the difference to 8-2, but it would be 9-2 by
Ernie Little's '26 home run in the seventh.
Dariusz Lukowski '27 relieved
James Marsden '26 after four innings. Stepping up as the second batter of the inning for the Cardinals, Little homered on a drive to center field and walked away with the only tally.
Tyler Cosgrove '25 walked but was left on first base.
Two walks with bases loaded pushed the Wolves to their final total of 11 runs in an inning that started with a second change of command from the mound for the Cardinals.
Oliver Wyner '27 took over for Lukowski, having pitched two innings.
Sullivan began the eighth on first base having reached on a ground ball error by Wolves short stop Nick Fridges. Hensinger's single to right field moved Sullivan to third before Acker's RBI double to center would nearly cut the score in half again.
The Cardinals' final runs came as the game began to wind down, jump started by
Jack Carpenter '25 singling out center. Cosgrove drove his own single to center and stood at second as
Evan Diaz '25 walked, loading the bases for LaSaracina. Doubling on a drive to center, LaSaracina earned the double RBI as Carpenter and Cosgrove took off for home plate. Diaz would be the final play of the game, scoring on Hensinger line out.
Sullivan finished the game with two runs, two hits, and a double. LaSaracina and Acker each had three RBI, LaSaracina earning a run on three hits. On top of his homer, Little was the only stolen base of the game.
Through four innings, Marsden struck out one, allowing five hits and eight run.. Lukowski struck out three and saw two runs on three hits.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, March 15, when they play Crown at 3 p.m. EST and Augsburg at 7 p.m. EST in an evening double header.
