CLERMONT, Fla. – History was made on Monday morning as the Wesleyan softball team swept another doubleheader, improving to 10-0 in what is now the best start to a season in team history. The Cardinals opened with a 10-0 win over Smith in five innings and followed with a 6-1 victory over Babson.
Â
Wesleyan landed a comfortable win over Smith thanks to and stellar pitching display from
Abby Orso G'25 paired with hits from all over the lineup as nine Cardinals recorded at least one hit in the 10-0 win.
Â
Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 doubled to leadoff the 2
nd inning and came around to score on the next at-bat as

rd, as the graduate student got a strikeout and ground out to end the inning, keeping Wesleyan up 1-0.
Â
The Cardinals started to pull away in the bottom of the 3
rd when the team plated three runs on three hits. With the bases loaded, a run scored on a wild pitch and Secaira-Cotto followed with another double out to left field, scoring
Lizzie Marino '25 and Orso to make it 4-0 Cardinals.
Â
After Orso stranded two baserunners again in the 4

Nicole Celi '27 led off with a single to right and
Rebecca Cassel-Siskind '26 followed with a double to left. A run came in on a bunt play from

Looking for a 10
th straight win to start the year, Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead with two runs in both the 1
st and 2
nd innings. The Cardinals saw the first five batters reach base safely to start the contest, with Palmer coming through with the big hit in the 1
st, a two-run single out to center field that scored Lennon and Marino. Then in the 2
nd inning it was a two out, two-run bomb from Secaira-Cotto that pushed the deficit up to 4-0.
Â
Spotted with a four-run lead,
Jacelyn Lees '28 had more than enough wiggle room to work yet another masterpiece as the first-year was on her A game once again. Babson managed just one run in the complete game seven-inning start with only one extra-base hit. Â
Wesleyan plated two more insurance runs in the 7
th inning as Secaira-Cotto knocked a single, her third hit of the game, out to left and advanced to second on a fielding error. With two outs, Lees came through with a single to right and a throwing error on the play allowed Secaira-Cotto to come around and score from second. Then it was Cassel-Siskind who doubled to right that scored pinch runner
Sam Chappell '28 all the way from first, making it 6-1 Cardinals.
Â
Lees allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the 7
