MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Graduate midfielder
CK Giancola '24, G'25 of the Wesleyan men's lacrosse team was named NESCAC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is Giancola's third career NESCAC weekly honor and the first POW winner for the Cardinals this season.
Giancola came through in the clutch for Wesleyan in a pair of come-from-behind road wins at No. 12 Stevens and Bates. In a game the Cardinals trailed 7-2 at Stevens, Giancola scored the go-ahead goal with 13:50 remaining and finished off the win with an insurance marker with 3:16 left, giving him four points (two goals, two assists) against the Ducks. The reigning First Team All-American followed up with a seven-point effort at Bates, matching his season-high with six goals, four of which were scored in the fourth quarter in a game that Wesleyan trailed 12-11 with under six minutes remaining.
No. 6 ranked Wesleyan (5-1, 3-0 NESCAC) has a full week to prepare for a trip to No. 15 Middlebury on Saturday in a rematch of last year's NESCAC Championship game. The opening faceoff is set for 1 PM.
