No. 8 Women’s Lacrosse Bounces Back with 13-4 Win over No. 20 Stevens

Four Cardinals had multi-goal games while Izzy Weintraub '26 tied her career-high with 11 saves

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Locked in a one-goal battle for most of the first quarter, the No. 8 ranked Wesleyan women's lacrosse team outscored No. 20 Stevens 10-2 over the final 50+ minutes of play in a dominant 13-4 home win on Saturday afternoon. Wesleyan (1-1) rebounds after one-goal season-opening defeat at Colby last weekend while the Ducks drop to 3-2 on the year.

The Cardinal offense scored on each of their first three possessions of the game as goals from Becca Dibble '26, Alix Riley '25, and Dylan Green '26 had Wesleyan leading 3-1 just over six minutes into play. Stevens made it 3-2 with a goal from Maddie Hogan before Green snapped a scoreless streak of six minutes without a goal from either team, making it 4-2 Wesleyan after one.

The game took a turn in the second quarter when Wesleyan outscored the Ducks 4-0 to take an 8-2 lead into halftime. In that period, Wesleyan outshot Stevens 11-2 and forced six turnovers from the Ducks. The Cardinals made the most of a player-up chance early in the quarter, as Lindsey Diomede '26 took a pass from Green right in front of net and scored with the Ducks played down two players on the field due to cards.

Izzy Weintraub '26 made a denial on Emily Leiby after Stevens secured the ensuing draw control and after a quick clearance, Addie Cummings '26 netted her first of the year to make it 6-2 Wesleyan. The Cardinals continued to force Stevens into mistakes and Diomede scored again before Mya Waryas '27 scored her first of the year and the second goal of her career with just six seconds left on the clock, giving the Cardinals an 8-2 lead.

Stevens scored twice in a span of just under six minutes, cutting the deficit to five on both occasions, but two late goals from Riley in the final 16 seconds of the quarter pushed the Cardinals out in front 11-4 heading into the fourth.

Dibble added another just one minute into the fourth and Green completed her hat trick in the fourth quarter while Weintraub continued to dominate the game, making five more saves in the fourth quarter with no goals allowed. The junior goalkeeper racked up nine saves in the second half and after allowing goals on Stevens' first two shots on-target, Weintraub made saves on 11 of the final 13 shots-on-goal she faced in cage.

Weintraub's 11 saves ties a career-high, a total she set twice last season, while her four goals allowed are a career-low in a game she played the full 60 minutes.

Green set a career-high with five points (three goals, two assists) while adding three draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers to her totals. Riley came into the game with four career goals and the senior midfielder broke through with three scores, netting her first career hat trick. Diomede finished with two goals and one assist while Dibble scored twice and DeLeo had one goal and one assist.

Leading the defense was Molly Simon '26 with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Lilly Stoller '26, Madeline Johnson '28, and Maeve Olson '25 each finished with two caused turnovers. Waryas added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Next up for Wesleyan is a span of four games in eight days, all on the road, as the Cardinals are next in-action on Wednesday at St. Lawrence.
