MIDDLETOWN, CT. – After holding a tie game for nearly six innings, the Wesleyan baseball team was unable to catch Albertus Magnus College with any heat from the bats, falling 7-3 in non-conference action on Friday evening.
Following a 24-run showing on Thursday evening, the Cardinals were held off by the Falcons after the first inning saw a tie game. The Falcons got the go-ahead at the top of the inning, King Rivera scoring off the bat of Eric Galarza.
Jake Acker '27, however, got the last word in the bottom of the inning. Acker reached initially on a fielders choice, advancing to second on a balk call to Alex Heidel. Singling to left field,
Evan Diaz '25 created enough commotion to send Acker to home.
The story of the second inning was
James Marsden '26. The junior singled down the middle to reach but it was Heidel that tried attempted to pick him off three times before he was pushed to second base. Marsden hit third on
Ernie Little's '26 at bat but was left on base.
Marcus Jang '25 faced nearly the same fate in the bottom of the fourth, earning the walk before two pick-off attempts. Jang stole second and Heidel again tried to catch the senior off his mark.
Opening the seventh inning, the Falcons took a three-run lead, Adrial Espada batting in Colin Telford. Espada would get his own run along with Anthony Abate on a left center single by Eddy Garabito.
Mirroring the fifth inning finish,
Jonah Timmons '27 and Diaz were back on base. Timmons began the inning doubling to left center field, advancing as Diaz was walked by Heidel.
Luke LaSaracina '25 ground out to the catcher to place Timmons on third and Diaz on second for
Troy Ashkinos '28. Ashkinos bat in both runners on a single through to center field.
Closing out the game, Espada and Abate each scored again in the ninth inning. Joseph Cortez was the seventh run for the Falcons, reaching on Galarza's ball to left field.
Diaz led all Cardinals on the evening with a run, one hit, and one RBI.
From the mound,
Tanner Mahon '27 pitched 6.2 innings, striking out two Falcons while dropping four runs. Mahon served up a 5.51 ERA.
Kevin Brown '28 relieved Mahon in the seventh inning, dropping three runs with three strike outs.
The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, April 13, when they travel up the road to Hartford for a matchup with Saint Joseph.
