NEW LONDON, CT. - Two first-place finishes highlighted a weekend of strong competition for the Wesleyan women's track and field team on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, the team competing at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College, with 15 Top 10 placements.
Strong performances all around led the Cardinals through the weekend, but it was
Fiona Carroll '25 and
Sofia Magnera with first place finishes that topped the show. Carroll earned a win in the pole vault, finishing at a clearing height of 3.25m. In the 5000m distance race, Magnera crossed the finish line with a clocked 19:05.91.
Three Cardinals ran top times in the 1500m, led by
Oona Vali '27. Vali placed fifth at 5:06.20.
Ellie Green '28 finished behind Vali in sixth place, running a 5:09.24. And
Tenley Flint '27 closed the Top 10 with a 5:18.70.
Juliette Sullivan '27 continued her dominance in the sprints, placing second in the 100m with a time of 12.78. In the 200m,
Sophia Mack '26 ran a 27.44 that was good for 10
th. Placing fourth with a time of 2:33.08, Jane Kacalec '26 ran the 800m before Elenora Smith '27 ran the 800m Elite and placed sixth with a 2:22.54.
Following the performances in the 1500m,
Jordan Walter '25 ran the 1500m Elite and crossed the line with a final time of 4:44.72 in fifth place. Piggybacking from Magnera's 5000m,
Margaret Stevens '27 earned fifth place with a 17.39.69 in the 5000m Elite.
Alexandra Simon '27 ran a 17:45.02 and took seventh.
The 400m hurdles went to
Imagen Walters '26, placing seventh after clocking in at 1:13.07.
Placing just two spots behind Carroll in the pole vault,
Mia Kjaer '28 took third at a height of 2.95m.
Racing the women's heptathlon,
Kate DiTullio '28 collected 3061 points, earning herself fifth place. The event includes the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin, and the 800m.
The Cardinals return to competition on Saturday, April 19, for the Trinity Invitational.
