No. 7 Women’s Lacrosse Scores 12 Unanswered Goals, Defeating Bowdoin 18-11 on Senior Day

Four Cardinals net hat tricks in a convincing home win, clinching Wesleyan a berth into the NESCAC Tournament

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. –  The No. 7 Wesleyan women's lacrosse team trailed 2-0 in this one but responded in a big way with 12 unanswered goals to run past Bowdoin for an 18-11 win on Senior Day Saturday from Smith Field. The Cardinals (10-4, 5-4 NESCAC) are winners of four straight while the Polar Bears (6-8, 2-7 NESCAC) fall for just the second time in the past four league games.

A resounding showing saw the Cardinals hold the Polar Bears scoreless for nearly 30 minutes after Bowdoin went up 2-0 early. Goals from Sam DeLeo '25 and Mya Waryas '27 pushed the Cardinals level with the Polar Bears as it was a 2-2 game after the first quarter.

Then the second quarter was completely one-sided as Wesleyan outscored Bowdoin 10-0, won all 11 draw controls, and held the Polar Bears to just three offensive possessions in the entire 15-minute quarter as the game went into a 10-goal running clock rule with 1:45 remaining in the first half.

Wesleyan opened the second quarter with five goals from five different plays in just 4:02 of game action, turning what was a 2-2 score into a 7-2 advantage. Izzy Weintraub '26 then denied Miya Imaeda on what was the first Bowdoin offensive possession of the quarter and in transition, Becca Dibble '26 passed to DeLeo on the near side who slotted home her third goal of the contest with a tight angle from in front.

Weintraub made another save 1:39 later before Dylan Green '26 assisted on consecutive goals just 14 seconds apart to make it 10-2 Wesleyan. Then the Cardinals completed a 10-goal quarter with Addie Cummings '26 scoring off a feed from DeLeo and Kiara Tangney '25 scoring an unassisted goal in transition to give the Cardinals a 10-goal lead at the half.

Bowdoin outscored Wesleyan in both the third and fourth quarters, as the Cardinals went deep into their bench all throughout the second half, as every available field player got into the game. But the final result was never in doubt as Wesleyan held a 14-6 lead after the third quarter and went back up by 10 goals midway through the fourth quarter before closing out the 18-11 final score.

One of six senior Class of 2025 players honored before the game, DeLeo went off on Senior Day with her first career four-goal game. DeLeo scored all four of her goals in the first half as she went on to match her career-high with five points.

Priesing also recorded her first career four-goal game, while the junior attack dished out two assists to give her a career-high six points in the win. Waryas and Cummings each scored three goals, giving Wesleyan four players with hat tricks.

Dibble and Green eached assisted on three goals while Tangney finished with three points (two goals, one assist), five draw controls, and two ground balls. Tangney and Kyra Browne '26 helped pave the way for a massive 22-10 advantage for Wesleyan on draw controls as each tallied five.

Sabrina Katz '28 came on late and dished out her first two career assists while Sami Smith '27 scored her first goal of the season and second of her career.

Weintraub made three saves with two goals allowed in the first half, picking up her 10th win of the season before exiting for April Rowe '27 who played the entire second half.

Wesleyan closes out the regular season with a home game on Wednesday against Conn. College at 6 PM.
