Men’s Tennis Superior in Senior Day Sweep of Trinity

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Highlighting what is the best overall season since 2018-2019, the Wesleyan men's tennis team swept Trinity College in 7-0 NESCAC victory, their first sweep of the season, for the first time since 2022 as the team celebrated senior Max Lustgarten on Saturday morning.

Taking eight of the nine matches in a Senior Day sweep, the Cardinals (9-4 overall 5-3 NESCAC) kicked off the morning taking two out of the three doubles matches over the Bantams (6-8 overall) to secure the first point of the matchup. Chase Kasday '26 and Brett Keeling '27 as the No. 3 pairing saw to it that Luca Garbati and Axel Edstrom walked away with a 6-2 defeat. At No. 2, Lustgarten and JT Bilksi '26 took Andrew Nelson and Pierce Rutledge to a tiebreaker, ultimately earning the 7-6 (7-5) win.

Piggybacking off of his doubles victory, Lustgarten was the first to finish at No. 2, claiming the first singles point to kickstart the singles play sweep. Facing Garbati, Lustgarten allowed just two points through set one before finishing with a clean 6-2, 6-1 final. While Sam Park may have been able to keep up with Keeling at No. 4 with four points per set, it was Keeling that kept the match quick and held off Park in a 6-4, 6-4 final.

Finishing in quick succession, Kasday was the next point on court five, holding Rutledge to only four total points in a 6-2, 6-2 pickup for the Cardinals. Making way for a fourth match win on the day, Tai MacDonald '26 paid little mind to the holdup in set one by Brandon Felcher and quickly finished the match going 6-3, 6-1 in a flourish.

Max Litton '26 took on Edstrom at No. 3, dropping just three games in set one before clearing up the field with a 6-3, 6-1 finish as the Cardinals neared the end of the match with no losses. The final point went to Harry Collomb '26 as the No. 1 in the lineup, in a head-to-head matchup with John Pope for a second time. Forced to an extra game in set one, Collomb was able to clear Pope in a 7-5 win, but Pop was not done. Pope managed to put down four points, but it was Collomb that topped the competition in a 7-5, 6-4 final tally.

This season, Lustgarten is 10-2 overall in singles play and 6-5 in doubles play, his best-career season to date.

The Cardinals will face Middlebury on the road on Saturday, April 26, with action beginning at 10 a.m.
