th win of the season, the Wesleyan women's tennis team took all nine matches in a 7-0 sweep of Trinity College on Saturday afternoon, celebrating senior
Renna Mohsen-Breen from the John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts.
Mohnsen-Breen, who has not played this season as she recovers from injury, was the guest of honor prior to the start of the matchup with the Bantams. From 2021 to 2024, Mohsen-Breen won 57 singles matches and ranks fourth all-time in career wins. Her .934 win percentage ranks second all-time to Eudice Chong '18. With a 54-7 career doubles record, Mohsen-Breen's .885 win percentage also ranks second only to Chong.
In a quick one, two, three doubles victory for the first point of the afternoon, the Cardinals (15-1 overall, 8-0 NESCAC) shut down the Bantams (5-10 overall, 0-8 NESCAC) early to set the tone for the remainder of the match.
Sarah Youngberg '26 and
Lane Durkin '27 went 6-1 over Ella Baker and Allie Francis as the No. 1 pairing.
Jackie Soloveychik '27 and
Natalia Leroy '28 defeated Kendall Cedar and Naisha Rathi in a competitive 6-3 finish at No. 2. The final win went to
Alexandra Burnett '27 and
Lucinda Gatsiounis '28 for another 6-3 tally for the clean sweep of Elise Brennan and Julia Clark.
Singles play saw three complete sweeps of the Bantams at No. 3, No. 1, and No. 4. Youngberg was the first star to complete her match, knocking a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rathi on court three, awaiting the rest of her team. Soloveychik was paired with Baker in the top lineup spot, cruising to a photo finish at 6-0, 6-0. Leroy, one of two freshmen in the lineup cleared Cedar for a second time at 6-0, 6-0.
Falling in at No. 5,
Macie Carlos '27 dropped just one point in the second set after a perfect set one, marching on to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Brennan for her fifth win in a row. Gatsiounis is 9-0 since entering the lineup for the Cardinals and continued her streak as she pulled a 6-1, 6-1 finish over Hellena Trojer as the No. 6.
Ever one for consistency, Durkin was the last to a point on the afternoon only due to Francis managing two points per set. Durkin needed little help to hold Francis off and remains unbeaten with the 6-2, 6-2 win.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, April 26, for a heavyweight NESCAC matchup with No. 6 Middlebury with action beginning at 2 p.m.
