MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Back at home in their regular season finale, the No. 6 Wesleyan women's lacrosse team scored 11 unanswered goals in a dominant 16-3 win over Conn. College on Smith Field on Wednesday night. Wesleyan (11-4, 6-4 NESCAC) heads into the postseason winners of five straight while the Camels (7-8, 2-8 NESCAC) see their 2025 season come to an end.
 
Looking for a ninth straight win over Conn. dating back to 2015, the Cardinals were unfazed after the Camels scored on the opening possession of the contest, answering back with a Mya Waryas '27 goal on the first Wesleyan possession that kickstarted the 11-0 run that lasted well over 30 minutes of game time.
 
After nearly 10 minutes with no goals for either team, Addie Cummings '26 broke the deadlock with a free position strike late in the first quarter to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead heading into the second.
 
The second quarter saw the Cardinals outscore the Camels 7-0 but shots only favored Wesleyan 11-8 as Izzy Weintraub '26 played a key role, making saves on all five of Conn's shots on target in the stanza. Meanwhile, the Cardinals didn't turn the ball over once in the quarter, cashing in on offense with seven goals, three of which came off the stick of Elle Priesing '26. Sam DeLeo '25 had a hand in four of the seven goals scored, dishing out assists on three while also scoring one in transition following a quick ground ball and outlet pass from Molly Simon '26.
 
Taking a 9-1 lead into halftime, Wesleyan put the game away early in the second half with goals from DeLeo and Bridget Horst '26 to initiate the 10-goal running clock rule. Wesleyan held Conn to just four shots in the third quarter, while Alix Riley '25 and Maddie Shoemaker '27 scored late in the frame to make it 13-2 Wesleyan.
 
Every available player for Wesleyan saw the field in this one, with the fourth quarter seeing first career goals for Maddie Chang '28 and Sarah Polumbo '27 while Shoemaker scored her second of the night to account for the 16-3 final score.
 
The Cardinals dominated in ground balls (22-11) and finished with eight turnovers (three in the final three quarters combined) which is the team's fewest committed in a game all season.
 
DeLeo recorded her second straight five-point game, finishing with two goals and three assists to match her season-high. Priesing scored three to lead the team while she added four ground balls to match her career-high. In all, 11 different Cardinals scored in this one while 13 recorded at least one point.
 
Dylan Green '26 and Lindsey Diomede '26 each finished with three caused turnovers while Catherine Vien '25 had three ground balls.
 
Weintraub was stellar once again, recording seven saves with just two goals allowed, giving her a .778 save percentage which is a new season-high.
 
Wesleyan shifts their focus to postseason play where they will open the NESCAC Tournament at #4 seed Amherst on Saturday in the quarterfinal round. Amherst took down the Cardinals in a triple overtime thriller back on April 2 in Middletown.
