MIDDLEBURY, VT. – Playing to a clinching point, the No. 15 Wesleyan men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 sweep by No. 14 Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon in the second to last matchup of the regular season from Middlebury's Nelson Recreation Center.
After the weather delayed the women's match in the morning, the Cardinals' (9-5 overall, 5-4 NESCAC) men's team took a late start against the Panthers (11-6 overall, 6-3 NESCAC). It was an uphill battle as the Panthers gained an early lead with doubles play, taking the best of three matches after the Cardinals were unable to finish at No. 3.
Playing to a fourth-point clinch, the Panthers only needed three singles matches to go home with the victory.
Max Litton was able to put up four points against Thehan Wijemanne, but fell 1-6, 3-6 at No. 4. At No. 5,
Brett Keeling took a 1-6, 0-6 loss to Hugh Hentschel. The Panthers earned a fourth point due to a retirement on court one, all other matches were left unfinished.
The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, April 27, to close out the regular season on the road at No. 23 Williams.
