Amanda Phillips Named WGCA All-Region

Phillips is the first All-Region golfer in Wesleyan women's golf history

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Amanda Phillips '28 continued a milestone week with a selection to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Region 1/East Region Team, as announced by the WGCA on Wednesday night. Phillips makes more history as the first All-Region golfer in team history.

Phillips is one of 12 golfers named to the East Region Team while she is one of six to make the list from NESCAC schools. The first-year burst onto the scene back in September when she shot a two-day team record 146, finishing in fourth place overall out of 80 golfers at the Bowdoin Invitational in what was her first collegiate appearance. The first-year went on to place in the Top 10 in four consecutive tournaments this spring. Phillips placed third out of 34 at the Vassar Invitational II on March 30 and followed with a seventh place finish out of 74 at the Jack Leaman Invitational, fourth place out of 60 at the Williams Spring Invitational, and most-recently a ninth placing showing out of 39 at the NESCAC Championship.

Phillips shot a -2 (71) on Sunday in the third round of the NESCAC Championship, tied for the low round of any golfer in the field, moving her up 12 spots in the player leaderboard to finish in ninth place and keep her Top 10 streak intact. Ranked No. 49 nationally, Phillips earned a qualifying spot in the NCAA Division III Championship, making history as Wesleyan's first individual qualifier at NCAA's. She shot 80-78-158 (+14) in the first two rounds this week down in Virginia.
