Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Top-Ranked Tufts in NESCAC Championship

MEDFORD, Mass. – The third-seeded Wesleyan men's lacrosse team fell by a score of 22-10 on Sunday to top-seeded Tufts in the NESCAC Championship game from Bello Field. The Cardinals (12-5) finish as the NESCAC runner-up and await an NCAA Tournament at-large bid in the selection show this evening.

The Jumbos got off to a hot start with a pair of goals just 13 seconds apart less than two minutes into the game, but Conor Selfridge '26 followed with a pair of saves while Tufts hit the post three times to keep the score close. Ben Burns '26 opened the scoring for Wesleyan with a goal 7:13 into play and after a Tyler Campbell '25 faceoff win, the Cardinals scored on their next possession with Jack Raba '23, G'25 finding the back of the net to even the score.

Tufts, however, limited possessions over the remaining six minutes of the first quarter, allowing Wesleyan to touch the ball just three times. The Jumbos took advantage on attack with three unanswered goals, stretching their lead to 5-2, but the Cardinals did manage a late goal from Will Shull '25 with 13 seconds left in the frame to make it 5-3 Tufts after one.

The contest was largely decided in the second quarter when Tufts outscored Wesleyan 9-0 to build a 14-3 halftime lead. The Jumbos outshot the Cardinals 24-10 in the quarter and won all but one of the 10 total faceoffs taken in the period. Selfridge did his best to keep the Cardinals in it, making five saves in the second quarter alone, but the Tufts offense was firing on all cylinders with nine goals and just one turnover in the 15-minute quarter.

Tufts went on to score six of the first eight goals in the third quarter, stretching their lead to 20-5 with 7:06 remaining in the period, before ultimately finishing off the 12-goal win.

Will Miller '26 led the Cardinals with one goal and two assists for three points. Matt Morrow '27 was the only multi-goal scorer for Wesleyan who saw nine different goal scorers. Joe Hurton '27 led the defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers while Selfridge made 10 saves in nearly 38 minutes in goal.

Wesleyan is all but assured of an NCAA Tournament at-large bid in what will be the team's 10th all-time appearance in the national postseason tournament.
