Men’s Lacrosse Set to Host NCAA Tournament Second and Third Round Play this Weekend

Cardinals open with Babson on Saturday at Noon in the Second Round

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 5 nationally ranked Wesleyan men's lacrosse team will play host to NCAA Tournament Second and Third Round games this weekend on Citrin Field. The Cardinals (12-5) open on Saturday at Noon against Babson before Rensselaer plays Williams in a neutral site Second Round contest at 3 PM on Saturday. The two winning teams will face off in the Third Round (Sweet 16) on Sunday at 3 PM.
 
Tickets are cash only and priced at $5 for adults and $3 for seniors/students/children ages 3-12, and all kids 2 and under are free. Ticket sales begin one hour before the start of each game. There are no online ticket sales.
 
This marks the 10th NCAA Tournament appearance for Wesleyan who won the school's first-ever National Championship in 2018. The 2025 NESCAC runner-up defeated Bates 15-6 at home in the Quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Tournament. The Cardinals then took down Top 5 ranked Bowdoin 9-8 in a thrilling Semifinal before falling to Tufts in the NESCAC Final.
 
Wesleyan features the NESCACs third-highest scoring offense (14.6 goals per game) and the sixth-best goals against average (10.7). Efficiency has been key all season, with the Cardinals leading the NESCAC in shot percentage (.330). Four attacking players were named All-NESCAC including First Team selections Jack Raba '23, G'25 and CK Giancola '24, G'25 and Second Teamers Ben Burns '26 and James Bailey '26. Conor Selfridge '26 has started all 17 games this season, sporting a .556 save percentage and 10.9 goals against average in over 900 minutes in cage. Leading the defense is All-NESCAC Second Team selection Emmett Schillinger '25 while Reef Kabalin '25 leads the team in caused turnovers and Joe Hurton '27 is a two-way threat on faceoffs and on the defensive end. Tyler Campbell '25 has won 51.6 percent of his faceoffs this season while Jack Doherty '28 sports a 48.1 percent win rate.
 
Babson (14-5) captured its third straight NEWMAC Championship last weekend and pummeled WestConn 24-4 at home in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday. This is the Beavers' fifth all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and Babson has advanced to the Third Round of NCAA's in each of the past two seasons. Eight Beavers were named All-NEWMAC including five First Team selections. Defender Brendan Maher is a four-time All-NESMAC honoree and three-time First Team selection, having started all 74 of his career games. St. Lawrence transfer and 2024 All-American Tripp Clark has made an immediate impact on defense, totaling 62 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers in 16 games. Alex Fascilla has an 8.75 goals against average and .576 save percentage with 197 saves in cage. Seamus Rooney leads the team with 59 points (32 goals, 27 assists) while Camden Matthews has a team-leading 35 goals. Babson sports 12 players with double-digit point totals while 10 players have 10+ goals.
 
RPI (14-3) has been ranked Top 10 for most of the season and is 3-0 against NESCAC opponents in 2025, having defeated Middlebury and Amherst at home and Williams on the road. The Engineers were 14-1 heading into their regular season finale and have since lost back-to-back games to St. Lawrence. In goal, Joseph Perry sports a 7.47 goals against average and .593 save percentage with 172 saves in nearly 950 minutes. Perry was named the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, marking the first time in team history that an Engineer won that award. Tyler Ruffini is the team-leader with 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists) while Easton Morse has the most goals on the team with 43. Angelo Venuto is a weapon on faceoffs, as the graduate student is 241-for-357 (67.5 percent) this season with 169 ground balls. The defense is anchored by Nick Biava (24 CT, 16 GB) and Jack Greene (38 GB, 18 CT).
 
Williams (7-9) has some impressive wins this season including a road win over Babson on top of home triumphs over Amherst and Middlebury. The Ephs also lost by just goal at Top 5 ranked Christopher Newport in late March. Defender Eddie Loyd and midfielder Jesse Shapiro were both named to the All-NESCAC Second Team. Loyd leads the team with 54 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers while Shapiro has a team-high 42 goals. Harrison Cross leads the Ephs with 55 points (37 goals, 18 assists). Matt Wetmore owns a .549 save percentage with 229 saves in 16 starts. Ian Kim is the team leader in faceoffs, going 140-for-269 on the season (.520 percent).
