Women’s Lacrosse Set to Host NCAA Tournament Play for the Third Straight Season

Cardinals (13-5) are back in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight season

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Back in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight traditional season, the No. 6 ranked Wesleyan women's lacrosse team is hosting First and Second Round action for the third straight year and fifth time overall. The Cardinals (13-5) will face the winner of Babson vs. Worcester State on Sunday at 1 PM from Smith Field. The Beavers and Lancers meet for a First Round game that will take place on Saturday at 1 PM on Smith Field.

Ticket prices for the weekend are $6 for adults, #3 for seniors and students, and $2 for children ages 3-12. Kids who are 2-years-old and younger are free. Ticket sales are cash only and available one hour prior to the start of play on both Saturday and Sunday. There are no online ticket sales.

Wesleyan has advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in all six of their prior appearances. The Cardinals are 5-1 all-time in the Second Round, having advanced beyond the Third Round in 2019 when Wesleyan made the Final Four. Wesleyan, the 2025 NESCAC runner-up, defeated Amherst 11-10 in overtime in the Quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Tournament. The Cardinals then stunned No. 1 ranked Middlebury 13-10 on the road, snapping the Panthers' 67-game win streak in the process, before falling to Tufts in the NESCAC Championship game.

Wesleyan saw their seven-game win streak come to an end in the NESCAC Final but the Cardinals are surging at the right time as the team rebounded well from a three-game losing streak right in the thick of NESCAC play in late March and into early April. A balanced team on offense, Wesleyan's 12.1 goals per game ranks fifth-best in the NESCAC while the Cardinals sport the league's third-best goals against average (7.85). The Cardinals don't have a player ranked inside the NESCAC's Top 15 in points per game but the team has 10 players with 10+ points each as well as eight players with double-digit goal totals on the season. Sam DeLeo '25 is an All-NESCAC Second Team selection, leading the team with 48 points (25 goals, 23 assists) while midfielder Kiara Tangney '25 earned First Team All-NESCAC honors as her two-way game has played a key role in the late season push for Wesleyan. Elle Priesing '26 has a team-leading 30 goals while Dylan Green '26 has 27 goals and 16 assists.

On the defensive end, goalkeeper Izzy Weintraub '26 is a two-time All-NESCAC Team selection and is enjoying a career year with a .504 save percentage, 7.74 goals against average, and 125 saves in over 950 minutes played. Maeve Olson '25 headlines the defenders as she is a two-time All-NESCAC Second Team honoree, having played in and started all 76 possible games over the course of her four-year career. Kyra Browne '26 leads the team with 70 draw controls while Tangney, Green, and Lindsey Diomede '26 each have at least 24.

Babson (14-3) is making its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 11th overall. Currently ranked No. 14 nationally in the IWLCA Coaches Poll, Babson saw its 11-game win streak snapped in the NEWMAC Championship game in a 16-6 loss to MIT. The Beavers feature a balance attack led by Amelia Novitch (34 goals, 35 assists) and Kathryn Blake (46 goals, 21 assists) while Clare Connolly leads the team with 52 goals and ranks second in the nation with 211 draw controls. Eileen Manning (23 caused turnovers) leads a defense that allows just 8.6 goals per game while Kathleen Murphy sports a 9.0 goals against average and .485 save percentage.

Worcester State (13-6) claimed its first MASCAC Championship in program history last weekend, defeating Framingham State 13-11 in the title game. Molly Witkowski ranks second in the MASCAC with 86 points (48 goals, 38 assists) while Abbie Wing is third in the conference with 56 goals. Hannah Erickson (45 goals), Kerry Brown (22-22-44), McKayla Fisher (34-9-43), Abigail Vincent (32-10-42), and Shannon Donahue (32-10-42) give the Lancers six players with at least 22 goals and 41 points. Fisher has a team-high 95 draw controls. Fisher (30) and Ava Gesner (26) top the defense in caused turnovers while Olivia LaValle has a 10.64 goals against average and .511 save percentage with 170 saves in 18 starts in net.
