Cardinals Call a Draw with Hamilton to Open NESCAC Play

MIDDLETOWN, CT. -  Opening NESCAC play for the 2025 season, the Wesleyan women's soccer team served up a late game-tying goal from Waverly Meyers '26 to call a draw with Hamilton College on Saturday morning, continuing the team's early unbeaten streak with a 1-1 final tally from Jackson Field.

Despite the heavy offensive edge the Cardinals held over the Continentals during the first 45 minutes of play, both teams entered the half without a score as the defensive squads were playing double time. The Cardinals outshot the Continentals 14-2 with a 23-5 overall shot total.

Entering the 56th minute, the Continentals managed to land a ball behind Molly Brumbach '26 in goal, breaking open the scoring on a lucky drive. Aiming from out above the penalty box, Sarah Flood was able to avoid several Cardinals in front of Brumbach with the ball landing in the left corner.

Now down a goal, the Cardinals continued to push the Continentals back into their own zone and hold them to just one goal. With two minutes remaining in regulation, Meyers nailed the game-tying goal to earn the Cardinals their game point. Kerenza Leahey '27 took the corner kick on the right side, landing the ball on Meyers' head for the header that sailed above the scrum and behind Nieve Tonna.

Brumbach finished the match in goal with three saves for the Cardinals. Tonna closed with eight saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when they host Springfield in non-conference action beginning at 5 p.m.
