Volleyball Sweeps Aside Bowdoin, Improving to 8-0 on the Season

Cardinals win all three sets by a score of 25-15

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Less than 24 hours removed from last night's thrilling four-set win over Colby, the Wesleyan volleyball team reset and went back to business in a dominating sweep of Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon in Silloway Gymnasium. The Cardinals won all three sets by a scoreline of 25-15 to remain unbeaten, improving to 8-0 (2-0 NESCAC), while Bowdoin drops to 5-5 (0-1 NESCAC).
 
Wesleyan was ultra efficient with the ball all afternoon, making just one reception error and eight attack errors in the three-set match. The Cardinals hit .250 as a team and dug out 52 balls while holding Bowdoin to a .055 attack percentage as the Polar Bears amassed 22 errors on 109 total swings.
 
Sophia Lindus '26 followed a 14-kill, 14-dig performance last night with an eight-kill, 14 dig stat line against the Polar Bears on Saturday. Siena Steines '28 recorded seven kills on 18 swings, hitting .333 for the match, to go along with three total blocks and six digs. Keira Sweetnam '27 added five kills and while Fiona LaCamera '27 totaled four kills and seven total blocks.
 
Setting the tone from the jump, Wesleyan won seven of the opening eight points of the match and quickly built a double-digit lead at 15-5 in the first set. Bowdoin could only trim the margin down to seven before Alexa Schnell '29 served the set out with an ace.
 
Wesleyan again went up early in the second set, using a 9-1 run capped by three straight blocks to lead 11-4. The Cardinals' lead grew 18-9 and Wesleyan finished off another 25-15 set win. In the second set alone, Wesleyan totaled 12 kills and hit .312 as a team, compared to Bowdoin who had nine attack errors and hit just .073.
 
Bowdoin hung in in the early going of the third set before Wesleyan won six straight points to hold a 12-6 lead. The Polar Bears could only get to within five points of Wesleyan before the match finished with a 4-0 Cardinal run highlighted by two kills and a block from Paulina Marino-Bindi '27.
 
Elliana Moreno '27 was all over the court once again, finishing the three-set match with 19 digs and four service aces. The four aces are a career-high while the 19 digs gives her 118 for the season. Moreno leads the NESCAC by a wide margin in digs per set at 4.72 through 25 sets played.
 
The Cardinals are back at home next weekend with a pair of non-conference matches, starting with a spotlight showdown with national power Johns Hopkins on Friday at 7 PM followed by a match against Endicott on Saturday at 5 PM.
