MIDDLETOWN, CT. – In a high scoring frenzy at Smith Field on Tuesday night, the Wesleyan women's soccer team put away Trinity College 4-0 to curate a sixth shutout on the season as they remain unbeaten.
Riley Buehler '26 scored twice to lead Wesleyan with a four-point night.
Marking six shutouts through seven games, the Cardinals outpaced the Bantams in the first meeting of the season between the NESCAC neighbors, outshooting by a 29-4 margin with 17 shots on goal. Buehler led the charge with four shots on Lily Bracken, two of which sunk for a goal.
With less than five minutes underway from the kickoff, Buehler struck first for the Cardinals at 4:24 with a beautiful header from the left post. Taking the throw in from the far line,
Waverly Meyers '26 and the Cardinals ushered the ball across to the Bantams bench line where
Brianna Garcia '28 was waiting in the wings. Garcia's high cross pass connected with Buehler as she charged in from the left side, the ball sticking the landing in the right corner.
The Bantams played catchup, trying to pin the Cardinals back into their own zone but found little success. The Bantams staved off the Cardinals' attack for the remainder of the half, entering with a one-goal deficit.
Opening the second half,
Maria Utz '27 was turned away by Bracken on a Cardinals corner kick. Bracken pinched the save over her head as Utz took the shot from direct center at the line. Two minutes later, Buehler struck again with her second goal of the night. With the Cardinals on the attack as the Bantams failed to gain any ground on the clear, Meyers set up Utz through the left side as Utz took the pass down into the corner for a sharp cross at the line for Buehler coming through the box. Bracken could not make it across in time to stop Buehler's shot to the corner at 48:47.
Earning a penalty kick at the 50-minute marker, the Cardinals took a three-goal lead thanks to
Meredith Feiner '28. The quick succession did not stop for the Cardinals. At 59:10, the final goal of the evening went to
Sheridan Snow '28 with her own header at the box. The Cardinals set up the corner with
Rachel Katz '28 taking the kick from the left side, Katz' ball making contact with Snow on the rush inside.
Molly Brumbach '26 closed the game with another win making just one save in goal. Bracken finished with 13 saves for the Bantams.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they travel to No. 6 Tufts for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
