No. 21 Women’s Soccer Sees Unbeaten Run End at No. 10 Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, VT. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss on Sunday afternoon at the hands of No. 10 Middlebury as Waverly Meyers '26 led the way with the opening goal in the first half at Allan Dragone Track and Field Complex. The loss snaps a 28-game unbeaten regular season run for the Cardinals dating back to the 2023 season.

Going toe-to-toe with another top-ranked foe, the Cardinals (5-1-3 overall, 1-1-3 NESCAC) were quick to the board in the opening minutes with Meyers notching her third goal of the season despite the Panthers (7-0-2 overall, 3-0-2 NESCAC) controlling possession for much of the first half. Awarded a corner kick at 12:38, Rachel Katz' '28 booted from the near right corner fixed for Meyers' header to the upper corner of the goal as Livia Davidson lost sight of the ball.

Rebounding from the early jump made by the Cardinals, the Panthers answered two minutes later on the next recorded play. Carolina Espinosa' shot from the top corner hit the left corner of the goal on a heavy touch with no Cardinals defenders far back enough. Taking the lead at 23:53, Kacy Walker made her way down behind the Cardinals defense for a cross pass over the box for Fiona Linnau. Linnau's header reached before Molly Brumbach '26 could get across.

The Panthers outshot the Cardinals 21-13, led by Espinosa with four.

In goal for the Cardinals, Brumbach finished with eight saves. Davidson earned the win with six in the opposing net.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when they host Amherst in NESCAC action at 12 p.m.
