BRISTOL, R.I. – Following a season-opening sweep of Wheaton last night, the Wesleyan volleyball team closed out the weekend with sweeps of Roger Williams (25-15, 25-18, 25-20) and Simmons (25-10, 25-11, 25-12) on Saturday afternoon at the Paolino Recreation Center. Wesleyan improves to 3-0 on the season, winning all nine sets to start 2025.

The Cardinals opened against the host Roger Williams on Saturday and saw the offense dominate to the tone of a .351 attack percentage in the three-set sweep. Wesleyan hit nearly .500 in both the first and third sets, combining for 33 kills against just four errors in those two frames combined.

Wesleyan jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first set on the heels of a 5-0 scoring run that included consecutive kills from
India Clark '28. With the Cardinals later leading 13-9, this time Wesleyan went on a 6-0 run to build a double-digit advantage before closing out the 25-15 first set win with three straight points.

The second set saw the Hawks jump out to a 4-1 lead, but Wesleyan won 10 of the next 12 points to take a 11-6 lead. After trading points in the middle stages of the stanza, Wesleyan led 18-16 before using a crucial 3-0 run that carried the Cardinals to a set-clinching 7-2 run down the stretch.

Neither team won more than three consecutive points in the third set as the Cardinals led by as many as five points in the frame before again closing out strong. Leading 22-20, Wesleyan got three straight points to claim the match-clinching 25-20 third set win.

Just one night removed from a career-best showing,
Keira Sweetnam '27 went right back to work, hitting at a .500 clip to set another career-high with 10 kills on 18 attempts.
Siena Steines '28 tallied 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double while
Sophia Lindus '26 had nine kills and a team-leading 14 digs.

Clark finished with seven kills and hit .385 while
Ali Landa '26 totaled 29 assists, four kills, and six digs.
Elliana Moreno '27 finished with 10 digs, bringing Wesleyan's total to three players with 10+ digs in the match.

After a short break, Wesleyan took on Simmons to close out the weekend and made quick work of the sharks in a largely one-sided match. Sixteen Cardinals saw the floor in a well-balanced showing that saw several individual standouts.

In her first action as a Cardinal, sophomore transfer
Mila Chan led the team with seven kills to go along with 10 digs and two service aces. Sweetnam went five-for-eight on her swings, committing no errors for a .625 attack percentage.
Paulina Marino-Bindi '27 stuffed the stat sheet with five kills, eight assists, and four blocks while
Katelyn Olin '27 had four kills and five total blocks.

Clark recorded kills on all four of her attacks while
Sophie Corbeil '28 played one set and went 5-for-11 on her swings with no errors. Landa against was a standout at setter with 28 assists, two kills, and five digs and Moreno totaled a team-high 14 digs.

Wesleyan dominated the scoreline in each set, leading 17-3 in the first set while winning the final 11 points of the second set. The third set saw the two sides separated by just one point at 10-9 but Wesleyan went on to win 15 of the final 18 points to seal the match victory.

The Cardinals are back in action next weekend with another three matches, this time at Swarthmore as Wesleyan will take on the hosts as well as Susquehanna and Skidmore from September 12-13.
