Cardinals Stun Williams in 6-1 Conquest on Home Ice

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Marking the first NESCAC matchup in nearly two months, the Wesleyan men's ice hockey team stunned Williams College on Friday night in a brilliant 6-1 Little Three performance that saw five different skaters record a goal on Danny Judge's '26 three-point night.

Welcoming the Ephs to Spurrier-Snyder Arena for the first time this season, both the Cardinals (4-7-0 overall, 3-2-0 NESCAC) and the Ephs (3-7-1 overall, 3-4-0 NESCAC) entered the game with 3-6 records but the stars tilted in the Cardinals' favor following Judge's go-ahead goal in the first period. Andrew Haxton '28 earned the assist. The Cardinals would earn an extra attacker with two minutes to go in the first with the Ephs called for hooking. Connor Sutherland '27 nailed the power-play goal, landing a rebounded shot behind Kael DePape from Judge.

While the Cardinals dominated possession in the first, the Ephs took the intermission to regroup and returned to the ice with fervor in their step. Hayden Hanes '27 opened the second period with his first goal of the season, chipping the puck over the left blocker of DePape unassisted from the near circle.

Fending off the advances made by the Ephs, Jack Bosco '26 scored his first of the night to give the Cardinals a four-goal lead, rifling a one-timer down the middle from Zach Stimeling '27 on a centering pass. Will Rassier '29 was the driving force as the Cardinals cleared the zone. With five minutes to spare, the Ephs dashed the Cardinals' hopes of a shutout, Jackson Krill scoring the lone goal for the Ephs. The Cardinals answered, this time from Dylan Margel '29, ringing a goal into the left corner from the near circle with Danny Markham '28 on the assist.

A sixth and final goal fell to the Cardinals in the third period as the clock neared its mark at the halfway point. Bosco's second of the game was ripped from just inside the blue line, earning Judge his second assist of the night.

Judge, Hanes, and Tanner Kontir lead all Cardinals with four shots on goal while the Ephs were carried by Logan Valkama's six shots on Patrick McDevitt '28.

McDevitt finished the evening with 28 saves for the Cardinals while DePape took the loss with 23 saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, when they host Middlebury at 3 p.m.
