WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. - Facing a daunting first period that saw six total goals scored, the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team fell in NESCAC action 6-2 to Williams College on Saturday afternoon, in the second game of the weekend series at Lansing Chapman Rink.
The first period of Saturday's contest was nothing short of thrilling. The Ephs carried the period with four goals as the Cardinals (2-9-0 overall, 0-6-0 NESCAC) fought back to cut the score in half. Claire Murphy and Reece Luber put the Ephs (8-1-2 overall, 2-1-1 NESCAC) up by two just past the midway mark, scoring within seconds of each other.
At 5:38 Aimee Seppenwolde '26 struck first for the Cardinals, putting an end to any and all thoughts of a shutout by the Ephs. Finally able to clear the puck after four shots in a row by the Ephs, Seppenwolde took aim and nailed the shot on the second try after
Carly Ward '27 and
Eve Omura '29 snagged the rebounded save. The Ephs answered immediately with a goal from Charlotte Fetherston.
With under three minutes on the clock, the Ephs took another two-goal lead as Lucie Bond scored but the Cardinals would cut the score again on the power play. The Cardinals earned the extra attacker as the Ephs were called for hooking and maximized the opportunity with a goal from
Lilly Place '29.
Dylan Green '26 and
Bree Anderson '29 assisted.
The Ephs would see Fetherston score again in the second period before finalizing the game with a goal from Maddie Samaan.
In goal,
Jenna Guglielmi '27 and
Sami Smith '27 combined for 33 saves. Pye collected the win for the Ephs making 23 saves.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 13, when they host Endicott at 5 p.m.
