MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Playing host to a mid-week matchup, the Wesleyan men's squash team cleared Hobart College in a 9-0 sweep on Thursday morning, advancing to 4-5 as Hobart falls to 0-10 at the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
RESULTS
Sweeping down the lineup, the Cardinals advanced with six 3-0 sweeps from a largely underclassmen line. However, at #4,
Harrison Tillinghast '29 was taken to task by Gabriel Garcia in a match that stretched over an hour. Garcia outlasted Tillinghast through the first two games, sending the freshman to a 2-0 deficit. With the match on the line, Tillinghast rallied three games in a row to claim the 3-2 (6-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-7) victory.
Running another 3-2 win at #3,
Dominic Wilson '29 found himself in a hole after game one with Javier De La Vega. Wilson tied the match up at one with De La Vega retaking the lead before Wilson campaigned two wins in a row (8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9).
Down one after the opening game at #2,
Arjun Somani '29 ran back three wins in a row to defeat Caio Paiva 3-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-6).
At #1,
Dhairya Shah '27 (11-4, 11-6, 11-3) defeated Adam Le with a perfect score. Joining Shah, Zachary Lu (11-4, 11-6, 11-5) beat Peter Vorbach at #5, while
Matthyaz Williams '29 (11-9, 11-5, 11-5) toppled John Solano at #6.
Zack Idinopulos '26 (11-6, 11-5, 11-3) was the victor at #7 over Jayden Saldana. Sumer Ahluwalia '27 (11-3, 11-7, 11-0) completed his match win over John Figuereo before
Finn Goodson '29 (11-6, 11-5, 11-4) rounded out the sweeps at #9 with a defeat of Mason Graham.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17, when they host Haverford in the first round of the Wesleyan Round Robin at 10 a.m.
