Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls at Amherst, 68-46

AMHERST, Mass. – The Wesleyan women's basketball team played well in spurts, but the Cardinals couldn't string together enough points in the second half to keep pace with Amherst in a 68-46 defeat to the Mammoths from LeFrak Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

A high-scoring first quarter saw the two sides combine for 33 points with Wesleyan making three three-pointers in the opening stanza. Olivia Quinn '26 hit her first of two three-pointers in the period to make it 9-9 while Madie Dayton '28 later connected from long range before Quinn hit another as Amherst held a 18-15 lead at the end of the frame.

Amherst had an 8-0 scoring burst early in the second quarter to turn a three-point lead into their first double-digit advantage in the contest. The Mammoths stretched their lead to 35-18 with 3:42 left in the quarter before the Cardinals strung together a 11-3 run of their own to head into the locker room with a 38-29 deficit.

The game took a deciding turn to start the second half as the Mammoths scored nine unanswered points to open up a 47-29 lead nearing the midway point of the quarter. After neither team scored for more than three straight minutes, the Mammoths used another 7-0 run to lead 55-34 in the final minute of the frame.

Quinn led the Cardinals with 19 points (3-6 3FG) to go along with two blocks and two steals. Meghan Kirck '28 had eight points while Alli Jones '27 finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

The Cardinals are back on the road next weekend with a Saturday afternoon tilt at Trinity.
