BRUNSWICK, ME. – Facing a 3-0 shutout on the road, the Wesleyan men's ice hockey team fell in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon to No. 13 Bowdoin College to close out a weekend of competition from Bowdoin's Sidney J. Watson Arena.
Wasting little time with the game underway, the Polar Bears were the first to the board with Gabe Shipper scoring his first of the night as both teams crossed the halfway point of the first period. Cardinals (5-9-0 overall, 4-4-0 NESCAC) goaltender
Patrick McDevitt '28 saddled 13 through the opening 20 minutes but outlasted the Polar Bears (10-4-1 overall, 6-2-1 NESCAC) deep into the second period.
With seconds remaining in the second period, Shipper scored once again to give the Polar Bears a two-goal lead over the Cardinals. The lead grew to three goals as the final period opened with a goal from J. J. Lemieux, the final goal of the afternoon for the Polar Bears.
The Cardinals staved off two Polar Bear power plays while the offensive measures were led by
Mike Fritz '27 with four shots on goaltender Jacob Osborne.
McDevitt finished the afternoon with 27 saves for the Cardinals while Osborne was awarded the win as he saved 23 shots.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Jan. 23, when they host Tufts at 7 p.m.
