MIDDLETOWN, CT. - Paying tribute to the eight-man senior class of 2027, the Wesleyan men's soccer team rallied two goals over Colby College on Saturday afternoon at Jackson Field in a 2-0 NESCAC shutout.
Celebrating the accomplishments of
Sam Wheeler,
Zach Feldman,
Yousuf Saeed,
Joshwin Jennings,
Niall Fergus,
Aiden Londergan,
Dylan Clack, and
Colin Tsay, the Cardinals' performance at Jackson Field was noteworthy given the contentious nature of the match as time developed. From the jump, both teams pestered with the Cardinals (6-3-1, 2-3-0) tilting the game with a 13-4 total shot margin over the Mules (4-3-4 overall, 1-3-2 NESCAC)
The Cardinals struck first in the 22nd minute when
Ford Cash '29 found the back of the net at 21:52, finishing off an assist from
Julian Cauvin '29 to give Wesleyan a 1-0 advantage. Cauvin's efforts in the low corner resulted in a cross pass through the box for Cash waiting without coverage. The defense maintained the one-goal lead heading into the break.
Doubling the lead in the second half,
Yousuf Saeed's free kick at 51:56 cushioned gap between the Cardinals and the Mules. When the Mules kicked up the action as time ran down, the defense held through to hold the win. Cauvin's tenacity and prowess through 90 minutes proved one of the most significant threats on the afternoon.
Goalkeeper
Simon Rebstock '29 takes home the shutout, recording three saves across 90 minutes.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when they host Middlebury at 7 p.m.
