MIDDLETOWN, CT. - The Wesleyan men's soccer team turned out a hard-fought 1-1 draw against No. 1 Middlebury College on Tuesday evening at Smith Field, matching the nationally ranked program in a competitive NESCAC showdown with a goal from
Ford Cash '29.
Entering the game fresh off a win over Colby, the Cardinals (6-3-2 overall, 2-3-1 NESCAC) struck first when Cash found the back of the net in the ninth minute.
Jacob Schindler's '29 clear from the midfield was initially blocked by Panthers' goalkeeper Leon Brody, but the junior never had control of the ball as Cash beelined for the rebound.
Responding with a goal at the 20-minute mark, the Panther converted a pass from JT Federman to Dylan Payne to even the score at 1-1.
While neither team managed to finish the contest with a deciding goal, the Cardinals offense following the half was aggressive in pinning the Panthers into their own defensive zone.
Julian Cauvin '29 led all Cardinals with five shots, three of which were on goal, while the Cardinals generated a 14-11 differential. Led by
Zach Feldman '27, the defense allowed just four shots on
Simon Rebstock '29 throughout the 90 minutes.
Rebstock recorded three saves and kept the visitors off the books in the second half. Brody finished with eight saves in goal for the Panthers.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, Homecoming Weekend, when they host No. 7 Williams at 3 p.m.
