WATERVILLE, ME. – Splitting the weekend series after dolling out a NESCAC upset, the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team found themselves in a 4-2 victory over No. 8 Colby College on Saturday afternoon following a loss on Friday night. Wesleyan's
Bree Anderson '29, Aimee Seppenwolde '26, and
Parker Caldara '29 all finished with two-point afternoons.
Notching the opening goal with just 25 seconds underway, the Mules (15-5-1 overall, 9-4-1 NESCAC) tried to set the tone for the game to build off Friday night's defeat of the Cardinals. Resenting the sentiment, the Cardinals (6-14-2 overall, 3-10-1 NESCAC) answered and Caldara tied the game up at one, with help from
Kimberly Jung '26, as the first period tipped over the midway mark.
Earning an extra skater with three minutes to go, the Cardinals converted on the power play with
Caroline Humber '29 giving the Cardinals the lead. Anderson and Seppenwolde, key contributors to the Cardinals power play unit, assisted on the goal.
Entering the second period, the Cardinals garnered a two-goal lead from the stick of Caldara as she scored her second of the game. Caldara's goal was set by
Emma Lucchese '28 and
Caroline Kee '26. Awarded another power play with five minutes on the clock, Anderson and Seppenwolde stepped onto the ice again, this time assisting on
Dylan Green's '26 power-play goal.
The Mules managed a second goal in the third period, cutting the score in half with the final goal of the game.
Caldara led all Cardinals with five shots on Mules' goaltenders Grace Caligiuri and Ally Martiniello. From the circle,
Lilly Place '29 finished with 12 faceoff wins.
In goal,
Jenna Guglielmi '27 finished the afternoon with 45 saves. Caligiuri and Martiniello combined for 17 saves.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Feb. 20, when they face Trinity on the road beginning at 7 p.m.
