Men’s Tennis Sweeps Coast Guard in Season Opener

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Opening the spring portion of the season with a perfect match down the lineup, the Wesleyan men's tennis team swept the Coast Guard Academy 7-0 on Saturday afternoon as the team was led by Max Litton '26 from inside the Bacon Field House.

The Cardinals staked the lead early in the match, giving way to the first point with three doubles victories. At No. 1, Harry Collomb '26 and Chase Burke '29 ran a 6-3 win over Brendan Love and Ben Bonetto. Dropping just one game to Anothony Gregoire and Konnor Eslinger, Chase Kasday '26 and Ryuto Saito '29 finished with a 6-1 final at No. 2. Litton and Brett Keeling '27 made quick work of Benjamin Carlander and Lucas Peltier-Salazar in a 6-0 finish at No. 3.

Litton, secured at No. 5 in the lineup, finished the afternoon with a perfect match following a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Carlander during the singles portion of the match. At No. 3, Burke also ran a perfect singles match, defeating Eslinger 6-0, 6-0. Fellow freshman Tommy Jani '29 cleared Peltier-Salazar 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6.

Leading the way at No. 1, Collomb was forced to a first set tiebreak with Bonetto but finished the job with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 final. Sweeping Gregoire through set one, Saito dropped just two games in set two to finish 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. Closing for the Cardinals at No. 4, Kasday finished Love in two sets with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Mar. 7, when they host Williams at home beginning at 10 a.m.
