WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. - After falling to a three-goal deficit, third period power-play heroics by
Dylan Green '26 and Aimee Seppenwolde '26 were not enough to lift the No. 6 Wesleyan women's ice hockey team ahead of No. 3 Williams College as they suffer a 5-3 defeat in the NESCAC Championship quarterfinal round from Williams' Lansing Chapman Rink.
The second half of Saturday's NESCAC matinee was nothing short of heroic. Two power-play goals in the third period tied the game up at three, nearly forcing overtime. Down 2-1, the Cardinals were awarded the man-advantage with the Ephs (17-3-5 overall, 9-3-4 NESCAC) called for hooking. Picking the puck from Seppenwolde in the neutral zone, Green took off and was no match for the two defenders that fell back, snapping the puck over the shoulder of Ephs goaltender Erin Pye.
With the clock beginning to wind down, the Cardinals converted on the following power play with Seppenwolde's game-tying goal as the Ephs fell to a cross-checking minor. Green managed the initial shot from inside the blue line, but Pye's save rendered the puck loose and after several seconds of trying to clear the puck from the scrum, Seppenwolde broke free and flipped the puck over the line.
Caroline Humber '29 and
Bree Anderson '29 assisted.
Tied up at three with five minutes sitting between Seppenwolde's goal and overtime, the Ephs capitalized on their power play before scoring a fifth goal with just a minute remaining. Charlotte Fetherston and Chloe Noxon were credited with the goals.
Savana Littlewood raised the first goal for the Ephs in period one, leading to goals from Noxon and Lucie Bond in the second period to give the Ephs the 3-0 lead.
Dylan Green's breakaway late in the second period cut the lead to two-lead after connecting on the pass from
Emma Lucchese '28 and
Kimberly Jung '27 behind the goal.
From the circle,
Lilly Place '29 led all Cardinals with 14 draw wins and was joined by
Caroline Kee '26 with 12 wins. Green's offensive efforts totaled to nine shots on goal.
Jenna Guglielmi '27 earned the start in goal for the Cardinals, finishing the evening with 41 saves. In the opposing net, Pye took the win with 29 stops.
The Cardinals finish the 2025-26 season with a final 7-16-2 overall record, running 4-11-1 in the NESCAC.
