NEWPORT, R.I. – With four separate skaters converting on goals, the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team toppled Salve Regina University on Saturday night in a 4-1 road win to mark the third win in a row for Wesleyan from Salve Regina's Howard Rink.
Led by
Parker Caldara '29 with a goal and an assist, the Cardinals (5-13-2)made a lot of noise following the Seahawks' (12-11-0) lone goal. With just over five minutes of play from the opening faceoff, Riley Esposito put a puck behind
Jenna Guglielmi '27 'to give the Seahawks an early lead.
Allowing another 10 minutes to run, the Cardinals answered with
Caroline Humber's '29 game-tying goal on the power play with help from
Bree Anderson '29. Caldara closed the opening period with the game-winning goal, scoring with less than a minute remaining.
Emma Lucchese's '28 pass garnered the assist.
Kimberly Jung '27 greeted the Seahawks goaltender Sydney Baxter in the second period, scoring just 54 seconds from the opening faceoff. Caldara set Jung's goal to give the Cardinals the two-goal lead. The Seahawks held through the remainder of the period and into the third, giving way to a late short-handed goal by
Dylan Green '26. With the Cardinals called for tripping, the Seahawks gained the man-advantage and tried for a sixth player on the ice by pulling Baxter from the net. The move proved unlucky for the Seahawks with Green closing in on the empty net.
From the faceoff circle,
Lilly Place '28 lead all Cardinals with 10 wins on the draw.
In goal, Guglielmi finished the evening with 12 saves. Baxter's total save count for the Seahawks fell at 20.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Feb. 13, when they face Colby on the road at 7 p.m.
