SEWANEE, TN. – Meeting for the first time since the 2025 NCAA Tournament quarterfinal, the No. 6 ranked Wesleyan women's tennis team took to the court for a 4-1 victory over No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday evening, advancing to Sunday's final rounds of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Indoor National Championship at Sewanee: University of the South.
Led by underclassmen through the duration of the four-point match, the Cardinals cleared an early lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Leila Epstein '26 and
Sarah Youngberg '26 took Lericia Vazquez and Lauren Rha to a 6-3 final at No. 1 before
Kendall Smith '29 and
Natalia Leroy '28 defeated Mireille Chedid-Daley and Annique Varty, 6-1 at No. 3.
Leroy went on to turn out a win at No. 5 singles for the Cardinals, facing Tessa Ellingson in a 6-3, 6-3 finish for the sophomore. At No. 4,
Lara Afolayanka '29 returned a 6-2, 6-3 win for the Cardinals over Ishya Bhavsar.
Entering the lineup for the Cardinals for the first time this tournament,
Agnes Guggenheim '29 rallied to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Meha Chaudhary at No. 2.
The Cardinals will face No. 3 Emory on Sunday, March 1, for third place.
