No. 12 Men’s Lacrosse Leads Wire-to-Wire for 13-6 Win over Colby

Cardinals score eight unanswered between the second and fourth quarters to land a fourth straight win

WATERVILLE, Me. – The No. 12 Wesleyan men's lacrosse team toppled Colby 13-6 on Saturday afternoon, landing a third road win in seven days while increasing the team's overall win streak to four straight. Wesleyan (4-1, 1-1 NESCAC) heads back home for a big week with home games coming against Stevens and Bowdoin while the Mules (1-3, 0-3 NESCAC) remain winless in league play.

An all-around strong showing from the Cardinals saw Wesleyan feature nine different goal scorers while Conor Selfridge '26 made a season-high 13 saves in cage. The Cardinals also took great care of the ball, committing a season-low 14 turnovers, while Colby only attempted 29 shots in the game, a season-low for a Wesleyan opponent.

After Colby committed a turnover on their opening possession, Wesleyan scored on their first trip down the field with Matt Morrow '27 finding the back of the net. Jackson Tinari '26 won the ensuing faceoff and Gavin Lechner '27 scored his first of three on the day. Then Wesleyan forced another turnover and for the third straight offensive possession, scored a goal as it was Lechner again who made it 3-0 Wesleyan just 3:42 into play.

Colby bounced back with two goals to cut the deficit down to one, but the Cardinals scored an important goal in the final minute with Brian Reilly '29 striking for his first career goal with just 21 seconds left on the clock.

The Mules scored on their first offensive possession of the second quarter, but that was the only goal for Colby in the entire frame as the Cardinals responded with three unanswered to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Lechner completed his hat trick then Doug Rabin '26 scored a pole goal and James Bailey '26 increased the lead to 7-3.

That momentum to end the first half carried over into the second half as Wesleyan outscored the Mules 4-0 in the period, extending their lead to 11-3. Wesleyan held Colby to just five shots in the third quarter while the Cardinals committed just two turnovers on offense. Lechner assisted on goals from Will Miller '26 and Nolan Samson '27 before Morrow and Reilly each scored their second of the day.

Ryan Aabel '28 scooped up a ground ball on a faceoff win and barreled deep into the Mules' defensive end before scoring just nine seconds into the fourth quarter. That Aabel goal made it 12-3 Wesleyan, giving the Cardinals their largest lead of the game and completing an 8-0 scoring run.

Colby went on to score three unanswered in a span of just over three minutes, but it was too little too late as Thomas Girimonti '28 scored in transition off a pass from defender Charlie Hill '28 to finish off the scoring in a 13-6 Wesleyan win.

Lechner led the Cardinals with a five-point game, scoring three and dishing out two assists. Reilly (two goals, one assist) and Samson (one goal, two assists) each finished with three points. Morrow scored two and Bailey had one goal and one assist.

Aabel stuffed the state sheet with one goal, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Lucca Casagrande '26 had two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Tinari went 6-for-9 to lead the faceoff unit.

Up next for the Cardinals is a showdown against a Stevens team that is currently ranked No. 7 nationally. The two sides meet on Wednesday at 2 PM on Citrin Field.
