Varsity 8 Keeps Unbeaten Run Intact, No. 2 Men’s Crew Topples No. 3 Williams for Little Three Title

Cardinals take home the Little Three title for the second time in the last three seasons

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – In a clash between two of the nation's premier programs, the No. 2 Wesleyan men's crew team won three-of-four 8-man boat races, including a 5.7 second win from the varsity 8, as the Cardinals toppled No. 3 Williams in the Little Three Championship on Saturday morning from Onota Lake. The Cardinals claim their second Little Three title in three seasons and 20th in team history. Racing in good weather that saw a moderate to slight chop, with a cross headwind shifting to direct headwind of less than 10 mph, the day began with the Varsity 8 race in a clash that was dominated by the Cardinals. Clocking in with a time of 6:20.69, Wesleyan won by open water as the Ephs finished in 6:26.39. Through four meets thus far in the spring season, Wesleyan's V8 hasn't lost a race.
 
The 2nd Varsity 8 was a tight battle, ultimately won by the Ephs who clocked in at 6:24.02 compared to 6:26.79 for Wesleyan. The Cardinals came back and dominated the Ephs in the 3rd Varsity 8, defeating Williams by nearly five seconds with a time of 6:30.66 compared to 6:35.23 for the Ephs.
 
Rounding out the 8-man boats, Wesleyan's 4th Varsity 8 recorded the most-convincing win on the day as the Cardinals crossed the line in 6:39.96 while the Ephs were a distant runner-up with a time of 6:54.89. The Ephs finished the day with a win in the men's four where Williams defeated Wesleyan with a time of 7:44.99 while the Cardinals clocked in at 8:10.37.
 
Wesleyan has a bye week before the New England Championships on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, May 2.
