NEW LONDON, Conn. – The No. 3 Wesleyan women's lacrosse team dominated play on Wednesday night in a 18-4 win over Conn. College in the final game of the regular season. The Cardinals (13-2, 8-2 NESCAC) head into the NESCAC Tournament as the #3 seed and will host #6 Williams on Saturday on Smith Field at Noon.
The Cardinals scored early and often in this one, scoring 11 first half goals while using a 9-1 run over the final 33+ minutes of play to land the 14-goal victory over their in-state NESCAC foe. Ten different Cardinals scored at least once while six Cardinals had multi-goal games including a career-high four goals from
Kyra Browne '26 while
Sami Smith '27 registered a career-high four points on two goals and two assists.
Wesleyan scored five unanswered goals from the opening draw, all in the first quarter, with five different Cardinals finding the back of the net. It was 6-1 Wesleyan early in the second quarter when
Mya Waryas '27 hit
Abby Galaris '29 with a pass right in front and the first-year did the rest, tiptoeing around the goal crease to score her second of the night, securing her first career multi-goal game.
It was later 9-3 Cardinals heading into the final minute of the second quarter when Browne dodged a couple of Camel defenders to score with 36 seconds left then
Becca Dibble '26 scored on the player-up with 10 seconds to go, giving the Cardinals a 11-3 halftime lead.
Browne scored a highlight-reel goal, shooting over her left shoulder with her back to goal on the player-up before Smith carried through the Conn. defense to score a player-up goal that sent the game into running clock with a double-digit deficit. Browne scored a few minutes later, giving her a hat trick, then she scored again just 18 seconds in to the fourth quarter for her first career four-goal game.
Smith scored again midway through the fourth while
Kate Morey '28 scored her first career goal and
Piper Dionne '28 scored with under one minute left off a pass from
Sarah Polumbo '27 who recorded her second assist of the night on the Dionne goal.
Wesleyan outshot Conn. 28-6 for the game including a 16-3 margin in the first half alone. The Cardinals held a massive 20-3 edge in draw controls as Wesleyan won 14 consecutive draws starting in the second quarter through the end of the game.
Galaris, Waryas, Dibble, and
Addie Cummings '26 each recorded two goals and one assist.
Maddie Shoemaker '27 scored once and had two assists.
Cannon Martin '29 had a career-high nine draw controls while Galaris' three points is a career-high and she added four ground balls to her totals.
Wesleyan is set to face Williams on Saturday in the Quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Tournament. The Little Three rivals met just last Saturday in a 11-3 Little Three title clinching win for Wesleyan that featured a career-high 12 saves from
Izzy Weintraub '26 in net.
