Hayden Myers Headlines NEWA Awards with Scholar Athlete of the Year Honors

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan wrestling team was well-represented on the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) end-of-season awards list with Hayden Myers '26 headlining the release with Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. Myers was also named to the NEWA First Team while four Cardinals were All-NEWA Honorable Mention while 15 Cardinals in total earned NEWA All-Academic Team honors. Myers is set to graduate in May 2026 as a Molecular Biology and Biochemistry major, currently sporting a 3.975 cumulative grade point average. He will graduate with a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan in just three full academic years on campus. Myers is a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American while he adds another milestone achievement with the NEWA Scholar Athlete of the Year.
 
Myers earns First Team All-NEWA honors following a standout senior season that saw him win the 141-lb Region 1 Championship and ultimately go on to place fifth at the NCAA Division III Championships to earn All-American honors for the first time in his career. Myers went 27-3 in the 2025-26 season with just one loss coming in the regular season as he won 17 straight matches to open the year.
 
Other Wesleyan wrestlers recognized as All-NEWA Honorable Mention include Ike Guttentag '26, Chris Hong '27, Roman Martinez '27, and Warren Little '27. All four Cardinals earned a spot on the All-Region 1 Team, with all four placing in their respective weight classes at the Regional Tournament. Guttentag went 21-5 in his senior year at 149 while Hong finished 23-7 as a junior at 125. Martinez finished with 14 wins at 184 and Little, who joined the team after Wesleyan's winter break, had four wins wrestling at 197.
 
The NEWA also announced the 2025-26 All-Academic Team and 15 Cardinals made the list including Myers, Guttentag, Little, Wynton Bowers '29, Ronnie Christolin '28, Rinaldo DiGiacopo '29, Michael DiOrio '29, Kellen Horst '26, Sebastian Kristal '28, Akiva Lind '26, Alexander Rivard '28, Ben Ronca '28, Owen Sheiman '29, Taylor Tan '29, and Silvan Unger '29.
