Freshmen Lead Cardinals in Loss to MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MA. - Traveling north for a non-conference, Friday evening matchup, the Wesleyan men's tennis team was bested by MIT in a 5-2 loss while led by freshmen Ryuto Saito and Tommy Jani from MIT's duPont Tennis Courts.

Holding an edge to the Cardinals (3-6 overall) for the duration of the match, the Engineers (7-4 overall) were quick to clinch the 1-0 doubles point as play moved to the singles lineup. A modified lineup saw Saito debut at No. 1, facing Hunter Liao. Liao snagged set one, but it was Saito that rallied two wins in a row after forcing the tiebreak and won the match 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Slotted at No. 5, Jani took Shrish Choudhary to task, running two sets in a 6-3, 7-6 win for the Cardinals. Max Litto was forced to three sets at No. 6,  taking set one 6-3, but it was Grant Gallagher that ultimately won the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, April 8, when they travel to Trinity for a 4 p.m. start.
