CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a rare double race weekend for the No. 2 Wesleyan men's crew team, the Cardinals swept a pair of close races against MIT on Sunday morning on the Charles River. Sunday's first place finish for both the Varsity 8 and 2
nd Varsity 8 sees the Cardinals go 6-for-6 on the weekend as Wesleyan swept all four races on Saturday at WPI's Class of 2003 Cup.
The Varsity 8 race saw Wesleyan break out to a fast start, opening a full-length lead on MIT at the 700-meter mark. The Engineers gained ground over the second half of the race but Wesleyan had too much of a lead to overcome, as Wesleyan's top boat finished in 6:01.5 while MIT clocked in at 6:02.4.
The 2
nd Varsity 8 race was a near mirror image to the V8 as Wesleyan had a full-length lead at the 700-meter mark. MIT gained some ground over the remaining 1300 meters but it was too much of a gap to overcome as Wesleyan finished in 6:14.3 compared to 6:15.1 for the Engineers.
Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday with a trip to the Malden River for a showdown with Tufts, Bates, and Boston College.
