MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Senior midfielder
Lindsey Diomede '26 of the Wesleyan women's lacrosse team was revealed as the IWLCA Division III National Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the association on Tuesday afternoon. This is Diomede's first career National DPOW honor while she joins
Izzy Weintraub '26 as the second Cardinal to earn the weekly award this season.
Diomede continues to anchor a dominant Wesleyan defense as she posted five caused turnovers and four ground balls in an 18-3 win over Cortland in the NCAA Second Round on Sunday in Middletown. Diomede has already established single-season program records in both caused turnovers (66) and ground balls (59) while she led the Cardinal defense on Sunday in an effort that set a single-game team record for fewest goals allowed in an NCAA Tournament game. The 2026 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year ranks Top 10 nationally in caused turnovers per game (3.47) while she has the most CT's per game of any player out of the 16 teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament.
Wesleyan (16-3) is back in action on Saturday in the NCAA Third Round where they will battle against No. 21 UChicago at 11:30 AM on Smith Field for a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
