Laura Litwin Honored as the Connecticut Athletic Trainer of the Year

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Wesleyan's Director of Injury Care Laura Litwin was selected as the recipient of the Connecticut Athletic Trainer of the Year, as announced on Wednesday afternoon by the Connecticut Athletic Trainers' Association. Litwin will be honored on at the CATA Symposium on Wednesday at the Peoples Bank Arena in Downtown Hartford. 

Now in her 13th season at Wesleyan, Litwin has risen within the department, first being hired as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in February 2013. She was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer in June 2017 and was again promoted to Director of Injury Care in July 2021. 

In her role as Director of Injury Care, Litwin is tasked with duties as head of her department which includes four full-time athletic trainers as well as per diem workers and student trainers from surrounding colleges and universities. Her athletic training duties include practice and game coverage, traveling three seasons with assigned primary teams and developing both rehabilitation and prevention programs for the Wesleyan student-athletes. She directly oversees volleyball, cross country, women's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, and men's crew and assists where needed with the remaining varsity programs. Her work with the development and implementation of protocols for athletic training continues to be all-encompassing as she organized remote medical clearance, online booking system for in-person appointments, pre-practice prep procedures and antigen testing.

Following the CATA Symposium on Wednesday, Litwin will board the team bus and travel to Rochester, N.Y. for the Final Four with the women's lacrosse program.
